Collage Obsession: Number 13

Numbers have many different meanings in various cultures - magic, secret, mysterious, superstitious. One of the most famous numbers is certainly number 13, the unlucky number in our culture.

I challenge you to make a piece of art (digital or manual or whatever) which deals with the number 13. What comes to your mind when you see this number? You can use one of these images above, or you can use any other images you want.

Post your  image/s of your art piece on your blog or other site, and leave a link to your work in our "comments" section. Instructions on how to leave a link to your work are located in the right sidebar. Just click on the words, "How to add your link in comment".

I really want to see what has come to your mind from this number - there are so many possibilities. My own entry is on my blog http://saksetjaliimaa.blogspot.com/ .

Thank you for participating in the challenge! See you!

Big Rock Candy Mountain

For this week's challenge, think of a land of milk and honey. Think of cigarettes (better make those candy cigarettes!) hanging from trees, and hamburgers growing on bushes. Lemonade fountains and ice cream hills, hard boiled eggs, roast chickens, and banana splits. Candy by the landscape full. Whatever your heart desires -- in the Big Rock Candy Mountain.

"Oh, the buzzin' of the bees and the cigarette trees,
The soda water fountain
Where the lemonade springs and the bluebird sings,
In that Big Rock Candy Mountain.

In the Big Rock Candy Mountain
The cops have wooden legs
The bulldogs all have rubber teeth
And the hens lay soft-boiled eggs
The farmers' trees are full of fruit
The barns are full of hay
I want to go where there ain't no snow
Where the sleet don't fall and the wind don't blow
In that Big Rock Candy Mountain."

Peace

Good morning, Tiffany is away for a few weeks so I have taken her place.  Tiffany's theme is "Peace".  Of course this can have many individual meanings, and it is commonly thought of as a state where there is no violent conflict.  There is also the personalized meaning that is reflected in a nonviolent lifestyle and also describes a relationship between people characterized by respect, justice and goodwill (Reference Wikipedia).

Please express your idea of "Peace" in any format and share with us.

SLOTH

As usual for this series my entry is above and on my blog:

According To Wikipedia:

Sloth is defined as spiritual or emotional apathy, neglecting what God has spoken, and being physically and emotionally inactive. Acedia is a Latin word, from Greek ἁκηδείᾱ, meaning "Carelessness".

Sloth can also indicate a wasting due to lack of use, concerning a person, place, thing, skill, or intangible ideal that would require maintenance, refinement, or support to continue to exist.

Religious views concerning the need for one to work to support society and further God's plan and work also suggest that, through inactivity, one invites the desire to sin. "For Satan finds some mischief still for idle hands to do." ("Against Idleness and Mischief" by Isaac Watts).[citation needed]

In the Philokalia the word, dejection is used instead of sloth, for the man who falls into dejection will lose interest in life.

I have always liked this hot, vibrant painting of a woman sleeping in the heat of the afternoon-for my purposes here I have served her up on a bed of hell, fire and supernovas-wound her is golden webs and given her a cherub to cry over her damnation (thanks Itkupilli for this PNG image).

I think Sloth may be the hardest of this series so have fun-I will be looking forward to seeing how you serve up SLOTH...
