Spirals

This week, your challenge is to incorporate a "spiral" image or concept in your collage.

Spirals are found everywhere in nature. They appear in shells, horns, teeth, claws, fingerprints, and plants. The spiral is also found in structures as small as the double helix structure of DNA, and as large as the spiral structure of a galaxy.

Man-made spirals have a long history as symbols; for example, spirals were used as an early symbol for the sun. Spirals are also a symbol of hypnosis, stemming from the cliché of people and cartoon characters being hypnotized by staring into a spinning spiral. They are also used as a symbol of dizziness, where the eyes of a cartoon character, especially in anime and manga, will turn into spirals.

The verb “to spiral” can describe the process of quickly escalating (“costs are spiraling out of control”), or becoming worse (“he was spiraling into despair”).

Here are some examples of spiral images (natural and man-made) to inspire you, or to use in your collage if you wish.  Please post your collage on your blog or website, and use the link feature below to post a link to your blog posting. I can't wait to see what everyone has created!

My "spiral" collage can be found below, under the link feature.

Images below are from wikimedia commons or flickr creative commons.

What an excellent idea!
I only occasionally venture into "art" from photography,
but I will become a Follower
(assuming it's available),
so I can possibly share in the future.
