Magic (Midsummer) night

In two weeks we'll be celebrating the Midsummer here in Finland. Midsummer is the peak of summer - the day is long and the night is very short (in the Southern Finland less than four hours, in the Northern Finland the sun doesn't set at all). Midsummer night is an enchanted night, and traditionally people have been making all kinds of magic tricks to gain knowledge about their future (especially about their love life). I think one of the most wonderful magic tricks is the one promising that if you pick seven different flowers and put them under your pillow on Midsummer night, you'll see your future spouse in your dreams. In my collage I have depicted seven different flowers that I found on my yard.
This week I'm challenging you to make a piece of art with the theme "Magic night". It doesn't have to be Midsummer night - I'm sure there are a lot of various magic night traditions around the world. I'm not giving you any images for your piece - please feel free to use any images you like to depict your Magic Night. Post your collage on your blog or website, and use the link feature below to post a link to your blog posting. I wish you magic moments!

Spirals

This week, your challenge is to incorporate a "spiral" image or concept in your collage.

Spirals are found everywhere in nature. They appear in shells, horns, teeth, claws, fingerprints, and plants. The spiral is also found in structures as small as the double helix structure of DNA, and as large as the spiral structure of a galaxy.

Man-made spirals have a long history as symbols; for example, spirals were used as an early symbol for the sun. Spirals are also a symbol of hypnosis, stemming from the cliché of people and cartoon characters being hypnotized by staring into a spinning spiral. They are also used as a symbol of dizziness, where the eyes of a cartoon character, especially in anime and manga, will turn into spirals.

The verb “to spiral” can describe the process of quickly escalating (“costs are spiraling out of control”), or becoming worse (“he was spiraling into despair”).

Here are some examples of spiral images (natural and man-made) to inspire you, or to use in your collage if you wish.  Please post your collage on your blog or website, and use the link feature below to post a link to your blog posting. I can't wait to see what everyone has created!

My "spiral" collage can be found below, under the link feature.
